Workman Ties for 6th to Lead Chargers Women’s Golf at Augustana Highland Classic

Sophomore Jaeden Workman (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) shot in the 70s each day and finished sixth overall to lead the Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team in the Augustana Highland Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Highland Springs.

The Chargers posted a 340 on Saturday and a 334 in Sunday’s second round for a 674 total, finishing eighth out of 12 teams. Host Augustana shot 302 and 306 to win by 21 strokes over Grinnell.

Workman opened with a 5-over-par 77 on Saturday, then added a 4-over 76 on Sunday for a 153 total for the tournament, leaving her in a three-way tie for sixth. Grinnell’s Nina Kouchi shot 1 under for medalist honors. Augustana’s Melanie Loeffler was runner-up at 1 over, followed by a three-way tie for third at 8 over.

Sophomore Madison Newton tied for 14th at 160 for the weekend, highlighted by a second-round 77. Kelli Kennedy (Henry, Ill./Henry-Senachwine) finished at 180 (93-87), Lizzi Whitford (Dahinda, Ill./Galva) at 181 (87-94) and Rylee Liles (Hennepin, Ill./Putnam County) at 216 (106-110) for the Chargers. Brisa Pantoja, competing as an individual, shot 248 for the weekend.

Sandburg plays in the Fighting Scots Invite hosted by Monmouth on Saturday and Sunday at Gibson Woods. Saturday’s first round starts at 1 p.m., followed by an 8:30 a.m. start Sunday.
